This is the final project of my animation course that I took in late 2006. The subject matter is essentially my perspective on national symbols that I have seen in my Caribbean environment since I was young that have taken on tremendous importance upon my migration to Canada. I view these symbols as unique as they are indigenous to and only found in this small dot on the world map. I employed traditional folk music of mento which is a forgotten form of Jamaican music. It contributes a sense of nostalgia to the piece. Additionally, I have the symbols interacting so that there are not seen as isolated images but bit parts of a significant whole. They are not seen as stiff statutes and emblems but representative of the actual unique realities on the island.
The symbols were hand drawn and colored with Adobe Photoshop and the animation was completed with Adobe After Effects.
